Calling attention once again to fraud in the home care sector, the Department of Health and Human Services Tuesday morning disclosed it is deferring more than $1 billion in Medicaid payments to California and Minnesota. It is withholding approximately $867.5 million in federal Medicaid payments from California and $199 million from Minnesota, the department disclosed in a press conference. HHS also will be expanding its exclusion authority, enabling both the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the HHS Office of Inspector General to remove bad actors from federal healthcare programs — and, in many cases, bar them from returning, the department said.
