Doctors are fed up with the system the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services uses to promote quality and set reimbursement rates. But they fear the agency’s new vision even more. Doctors complain that MIPS mandates burdensome, costly reporting and that they risk lower reimbursements if they fail to meet increasingly high benchmarks for quality. CMS pitched Value Pathways as a streamlined alternative with fewer reporting requirements, which would seem to address a major concern from doctors. But the plan has a downside, physicians say: It limits their ability to select which quality measures to report.
