In a new memo outlining the National Fraud Enforcement Division’s enforcement priorities in a variety of industries, the Department of Justice called out home health and hospice fraud as an area of focus in the healthcare sector. “National healthcare expenditures are expected to grow from over $3 trillion a year to over $7 trillion, and estimates are that between 3–10% of that amount is lost to fraud,” the Aug. 13 memo from Colin M. McDonald, assistant attorney general, said. “Home health aide and hospice scams directly impact vulnerable elderly Americans and erode patient care.”
