A U.S. district court approved a settlement involving the $3.3 billion merger with UnitedHealth Group and Baton Rouge-based hospice company Amedisys, the Department of Justice announced. According to a new release, Amedisys will be required to pay a $1.1 million civil penalty to the United States for falsely certifying that it had provided “true, correct, and complete” responses under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976. Officials said the settlement requires UnitedHealth and Amedisys to divest at least 164 home health and hospice locations in 19 states, which account for $528 million in annual revenue.
