Healthcare services flipped the script in Q2 2026, staging one of its sharpest reversals in years and outperforming both the S&P 500 (+9.6%) and Nasdaq (+12.8%) YTD for the first time in several quarters. There were two driving forces behind this: CMS’s final 2027 Medicare Advantage rate notice landed at an effective increase of approximately 5% —a world away from the near-flat 0.09% floated in January—and Q1 earnings gave investors the first hard proof in quarters that medical cost trend was cooling, not climbing. Hospitals, rehabilitation & long-term care stayed the laggard (-4.8% median) as ACA subsidy expiration kept squeezing volumes and reimbursement.
