The healthcare sector has been abuzz about the migration of cardiovascular procedures to outpatient settings. But the CEO of Tenet Healthcare Corp. (NYSE: THC) isn’t necessarily buying into the hype. “I’ve said ‘I don’t think this is going to be transformative’ over the last five years – it hasn’t really been, and there’s reasons for that,” CEO Saum Sutaria, M.D., said on May 13 at the Bank of America Securities 2024 Health Care Conference. The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) removed a key barrier standing in the way of moving more heart procedures to the outpatient setting when it added 86 new cardiovascular codes to the ASC Covered Procedure List for 2026.
