Indiana Becomes Latest State to Enact a Medicaid Home Care Moratorium

In the wake of the federal home health and hospice moratorium, Indiana is joining the ranks of states that have instituted pauses on provider certification and enrollment for Medicaid home- and community-based services. It becomes the fifth state to enact such a moratorium. Indiana last week disclosed it received approval to enact the six-month moratorium. The action follows an audit earlier this year that uncovered $200 million in improper payments to Indiana’s five largest attendant care providers. The moratorium will go into effect Aug. 1 and could be extended, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration disclosed.
