Revenue cycle teams are paying more to collect as they grapple with mounting financial pressures, adversarial payers, and a shifting regulatory landscape. These headwinds are forcing revenue cycle management from a back-office function into a core strategic enabler for health systems, according to a recent survey from McKinsey. About two-thirds of 215 survey respondents anticipate negative financial consequences from H.R. 1, the 2025 budget reconciliation bill that cuts funding for Medicaid by $1 trillion over a decade. While the financial outlook looks grim, health systems are already facing higher costs to collect. Nearly one-half of respondents reported that these costs have increased in the past two years.
