Mountain Heart, one of Flagstaff’s few providers of cardiology and sleep services, is being purchased by Northern Arizona Healthcare, its current partner and the parent company of Flagstaff Medical Center. The transition in ownership will occur this spring, after the upcoming retirement of cardiologist Kent Winkler, who has owned and operated Mountain Heart since it opened in 2008. John Tinkle, Chief Administrative Officer of FMC, said Winkler approached the health care organization about six months ago to discuss ownership of the practice, which Tinkle predicts will shift to NAH by April. The Mountain Heart facility is currently awaiting licensure from the Arizona Department of Health Services as an ambulatory clinic of the hospital, requirements for which Tinkle said are stricter than those of a private practice.
