The number Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) home health beneficiaries decreased by 2.1% in 2024, continuing a slide since 2019, according to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission’s (MedPAC’s) July report. “FFS home health utilization has been declining for several years as more beneficiaries enroll in Medicare Advantage and per capita FFS hospitalizations — a common source of referral to home healthcare — have fallen,” A Data Book: Health Care Spending and the Medicare Program reported. Still, the number of 30-day periods remained consistent, the report added.
