The percentage of orthodontists who own practices has declined since 2018, according to a survey from the American Association of Orthodontists. The AAO recently conducted its “Economics of Orthodontics and Patient Census Survey,” which gathers practice statistics, market data and additional information from its members. The association conducted 635 surveys this year. Sixty-eight percent of respondents reported being a practice owner, either solely or as a partner, compared to 80% in 2018 and 69% in 2022.
