At first glance, an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) might seem like the exact opposite type of place where you would expect value-based care to take root. After all, ASCs tend to focus on high-volume procedures, and the point of value-based care is to pay providers based on outcomes rather than the number of services performed. But Winborne Macphail, CEO of SCA Health, wants to flip that script. “ASCs are lower-cost care sites, right?” Macphail told ASC News. “They are a strategic asset in a value-based healthcare delivery system.”
