Seniors Housing and Care M&A Activity Slowed by COVID-19 in Q1:2020

The number of publicly announced seniors housing and care acquisitions in the first quarter of 2020 dropped below 100 transactions for the first time since the first quarter of 2018, with 95 deals, based on new acquisition data from Irving Levin Associates. This represents a 17% decline from the 114 transactions announced in the fourth quarter of 2019 and a 19% decrease from the 117 in the first quarter of 2019. Buyers also committed fewer dollars to Q1 deals, spending a total of $2.7 billion on seniors housing and care deals in the first quarter, 28% lower than the $3.7 billion in Q4:19.
