Occupancy at freestanding nursing homes hit a 10-year high early this year, peaking at 86.7% across dozens of major markets used as a barometer of SNF activity nationwide. The National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care announced its latest data in a blog by analyst Yitao Luo. The 2026 first-quarter occupancy rate in 99 primary and secondary markets may be the most solid proof of a post-COVID rebound that has been anecdotally affirmed in individual companies’ earnings reports and in interviews with McKnight’s Long-Term Care News.
