An executive at UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) said the company’s ambulatory surgery center (ASC) division is humming along – even if it’s part of a larger division that’s in the midst of a makeover. During UnitedHealth’s second-quarter earnings call on July 16, Deutsche Bank analyst George Hill asked whether Optum, the company’s healthcare services arm, had noticed that outpatient surgical volume trends were becoming a concern for investors across the space. Hill’s question came after major health system HCA Healthcare Inc. (NYSE: HCA) revealed in a second-quarter earnings preview that same-facility outpatient surgeries declined 3.4% year over year.
