United Behavioral Health and United Healthcare Insurance have agreed to pay a total of $15.6 million and take corrective actions to resolve violations of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (MHPAEA). The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced the news Thursday following investigations and litigation by the DOL and the New York State Attorney General. The development is a positive sign for behavioral health providers — and evidence that the Biden Administration is making good on its promise to enforce parity in the U.S. health care system, according to Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employee Benefits Security Ali Khawar.
