UPMC Prepares to Acquire Ohio Health System

UPMC has signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire its first hospital system in Ohio. UPMC and CommonSpirit Health agreed to negotiate an agreement that would result in UPMC acquiring Trinity Health System’s three-hospital system in Steubenville. In addition to the hospitals, the deal includes two urgent care centers and a behavioral health and physicians’ office building. If the deal is inked, UPMC stands to acquire Trinity Center West, a 200-bed acute care hospital in Steubenville; the 25-bed Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison; and Trinity Health System St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital, a 10-bed, 20,000-square-foot mini-hospital that opened in August.
