Walgreens’ VillageMD unit last week announced a $8.9 billion deal to acquire Summit Health-CityMD, which operates hundreds of primary, urgent and specialty care practices across the tri-state area, Pennsylvania and Oregon. Jeff Alter, chief executive of Summit Health, said the two companies’ relationship dates back to 2020, when VillageMD acquired Summit Medical Group of Arizona. Crain’s Health Pulse spoke with Alter about the company’s post-acquisition growth plans and how the deal might ultimately affect patients in the New York metropolitan area.
