MA Enrollment Grew 337% From 2006 through 2022, Study Finds

Medicare Advantage plans added 22.2 million beneficiaries while traditional Medicare lost 1 million enrollees from 2006 through 2022, according to a study published Monday in Health Affairs. Adjusted MA penetration nationally in 2022 was just shy of 50%, and 24% of Medicare enrollees with Parts A and B lived in a county with adjusted penetration equal or above 60%, the study found. The rise in MA enrollment and penetration “indicates that beneficiaries are reforming Medicare with their feet,” the study’s authors wrote.
