Healthcare, Life Sciences Dealmaking May ‘Markedly Improve’ in ’24

Following a bumpy year marked by historically high levels of inflation and a dealmaking slowdown in the life sciences industry, 2024 may hold some promise for a rebound, according to a report out of KPMG. Deals in the healthcare and life sciences industry dropped last year following a post-pandemic surge in 2021 and 2022, the report found, with life sciences deals falling from 1,133 to 919. Meanwhile, healthcare deals dropped from 1,001 to 857. Strategic investments for life science companies also declined in 2023, however investments in healthcare rose from 475 to 566 in the same time period. Coming into 2024, though, KPMG pinpointed good news on the macroeconomic front as inflation eases and further interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve appear less likely.
