Following the emergence of several oncology private equity-backed platforms in 2018, there has been an uptick of tuck-in acquisition activity in the oncology space, both by these PE-backed entities, as well as by other prominent public and corporate-backed oncology platforms. These platforms have targeted geographic expansion and economies of scale through strategic affiliations with practices and physicians. While increased regulatory scrutiny and a more difficult funding environment have hampered overall physician practice transaction activity, several notable platform and tuck-in acquisitions have defined the recent environment for investment in oncology.
