Private equity (PE) has rapidly been acquiring physician practices in the US, but a full understanding of its association with health care prices, spending, utilization, and quality is still unknown. This economic evaluation of more than 1.1 million patients undergoing 1.3 million colonoscopies found that colonoscopy prices, spending, and utilization increased at PE-acquired gastroenterology practices, but PE acquisition was not associated with changes in quality.
