The US healthcare industry should introduce new workforce and technology strategies to tackle staff turnover, employee stress and burnout, suggests new research released by the TIAA Institute, a think tank within the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America, and strategy firm High Lantern Group. The report links employee burnout and high turnover rates to 20 years of stagnant productivity. It also warns that a 50% surge in Americans aged 65 and older — to about 82 million by 2050 — will create unprecedented demand for healthcare services with fewer younger workers to provide care.
