Fruth Pharmacy, a family-owned chain in West Virginia, announced that it will sell its business to Walgreens. Fruth Pharmacy, which has been in business for 70 years, has struggled with reduced reimbursement rates from pharmacy benefit managers, which contributed to the sale, per a Supermarket News report. A Walgreens spokesperson told DSN, “Retail pharmacies play a vital role in delivering care where patients need it most. Beginning December 3, 2025, prescription files and related pharmacy inventory from 16 Fruth Pharmacy locations in Ohio and West Virginia will transition to nearby Walgreens stores designated to receive them.”
