Universal Health Services Has High Hopes for Talkspace Deal

Universal Health Services’ (NYSE: UHS) $835 million acquisition of virtual provider Talkspace (Nasdaq: TALK) is key to the company’s outpatient growth strategy. In addition to the pitch that the two entities will serve as a step up or step down for the other as part of the care continuum, the acquisition could help the combined operation offer new services that neither offers today, such as intermediate services delivered virtually. “There is a significant opportunity for us to introduce Talkspace’s [team] of 6000 clinicians into our environment to develop higher acuity virtual offerings, such as virtual intensive outpatient programs or IOPS,” Marc Mill, CEO of UHS, said on the company’s Q1 earnings call.
