Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp, Ala., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to stabilize its finances while continuing operations. The hospital filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Alabama. Mizell Memorial’s main goal is to preserve critical services in the community, according to a news release. Mizell Memorial said it is not alone in facing economic pressures affecting rural hospitals nationwide, including reimbursement shortfalls, rising workforce, pharmacy and supply costs, as well as mounting regulatory and administrative burdens.
