Both payers and providers are working to deploy AI at scale to deliver operational efficiencies, but hospitals may have the competitive advantage, according to analyst A.J. Rice, in a report for financial services company UBS. AI is able to do the heavy lifting for high-volume workflows in such areas as claims processing, documentation, labor management and call center operations, the report said. But over time, hospitals will realize a greater benefit than insurers as all major payers adopt automated solutions. Payers are using AI across claims adjudication, prior authorization, fraud detection and member engagement, he said, but these benefits are broadly replicated and are being pursued simultaneously across the industry.
