Battle for Talent Brews between Home Health and Skilled Nursing

Home health providers could be particularly hard hit in states where a shortage of nurses and nurse aides is already acute. A 2022 study from the Health Resources and Service Administration projected the biggest worker shortages over the next decade will be in Washington, Georgia, California, Oregon, Michigan, Idaho, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Jersey and South Carolina. Post-acute care providers in rural communities could be most at risk of losing staff, according to a spokesperson from the American Health Care Association. The nursing home trade group said urban nursing home operators who have to comply with the mandate sooner than rural operators could poach staff.
