The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) opened the door to including ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) in episode-based payment models back in April, soliciting feedback as part of its 2027 Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) proposed payment rule. As part of a request for information, CMS specifically wants feedback on how ASCs might participate in the Transforming Episode Accountability Model, or “TEAM” Model. The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA) submitted comments June 9 – the day the feedback window closed – opposing ASC inclusion.
