The Trump administration has locked in a 2.6% payment rate increase for inpatient services in the coming fiscal year as well as an industry-opposed mandatory payment model for five common surgical procedures. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS’) Inpatient Prospective Payment Systems (IPPS) and Long-Term Care Hospital Prospective Payment System (LTCH PPS) final rule, released Thursday afternoon, reflects a 3.3% market basket update that is reduced by a 0.7 percentage point productivity adjustment. The increase is a notch higher than the 2.4% bump proposed back in April but a step back from last year’s 2.9%.
