CMS Launches National Hospice, Home Health Enrollment Moratorium

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced a national moratorium on hospice and home health provider enrollment in Medicare. The agency announced the implementation of the six-month moratoria on Wednesday to temporarily pause an influx of new providers amid fraudulent activity in the hospice space. The move is the latest in a string of enforcement actions aimed at curbing fraud, waste and abuse. CMS rolled out the moratorium in coordination with a federal anti-fraud task force established in March, led by Vice President J.D. Vance. About 10 federal agencies are participating in the task force, including the U.S. Department of Justice, which recently joined in May.
