DEA Formalizes End to X-Waiver; Expands Window to Administer MOUD Injectables

The Drug Enforcement Administration has finalized the formal end of the DATA / X-waiver requirement for medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) treatment, defined related training requirements and extended the window for administering certain medications from 14 days to 45. “The move adds significant value to our work around SUD treatment in making this a key component of medical care, much like anxiety and depression screenings that happen when we visit the doctor’s office,” James Button, CEO of Citizen Advocates, told Behavioral Health Business. “As a network, we believe the demand for lifesaving medication continues to outpace supplies.”
