On September 9th, the Department of Labor, the Department of the Treasury, and HHS (the Departments) jointly issued a final rule amending the 2013 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) regulations. Largely mirroring the July 2023 proposed rule, the final rule enacts several key changes to ensure that mental health coverage is on par with physical health coverage, and establishes new requirements for health plans to improve access for adults and children with behavioral health treatment.
