The Federal Trade Commission on Sept. 4 announced a public inquiry to gather information on the use of employee noncompete agreements. “We are asking the public to help shine a light on unfair and anticompetitive agreements,” Kelse Moen, deputy director of the Bureau of Competition and co-chair of the agency’s Joint Labor Task Force, said in a press release. The FTC noted that while noncompete agreements can serve a valid purpose in some circumstances, they are often subject to abuse.
