Methodist Healthcare has agreed to buy five free-standing emergency centers in the San Antonio area, which will give Methodist nine such faciliities in the market. All the centers are operated under the First Choice brand. Three of the emergency centers, including two in San Antonio and one in Helotes, were previously operated by Dallas-based Steward Health Care System, which was owned by Cerberus Capital Management LP. The private equity firm sold the health system to a group of the company’s physicians in June. The other two centers bought by Methodist were owned and operated by Adeptus Health, while Medical Properties Trust owns the real estate, Methodist Healthcare Senior Vice President of Strategy and Development Brandon Webb said.
