Following the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ enactment of a moratorium on new Medicare hospice enrollments Wednesday, many home health and hospice providers are anticipating a period of stalled industry growth and curtailed access to home health and hospice. Eric Scharber, executive vice president of consulting firm SimiTree, anticipates dampened industry growth as a result of the moratorium. “The moratorium could lead to fewer new agencies entering the market and may also slow acquisition activity in the near term as operators and investors assess the regulatory landscape,” he told McKnight’s Home Care Daily Pulse.
