After a flashy debut during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Talkspace, like many other virtual mental health companies, struggled to keep the momentum going. That made it a natural target for an acquisition. This March, Universal Health Services, an operator of hospitals and mental healthcare facilities, agreed to buy Talkspace for a total value of around $835 million, a discount to the $1.4 billion valuation Talkspace went public at in 2021. An SEC document filed Tuesday sheds more light on the sale process, including how many entities considered buying Talkspace, and how UHS’ offer came out on top.
