Erik Swanson, managing director and leader of Kaufman Hall’s Data Science and Analytics Team, sees a variety of factors impacting hospitals and health systems right now. Policy and payment changes, rising levels of bad debt and charity care, and steady increases in non-labor expenses, are among the key factors involved in bringing down operating revenues.
