North Country HealthCare has reached an acquisition agreement with Tucson’s El Rio Health and will begin bankruptcy proceedings this week, the embattled organization’s chief executive officer told employees in an email on Monday, Dec. 15. “El Rio has provided a written offer to acquire certain of North Country’s assets, which, if approved, would allow El Rio to provide health care services in northern Arizona previously provided by North Country,” North Country HealthCare CEO Anne Newland wrote. “North Country’s governing board will review the sale terms this week; North Country expects to facilitate this potential sale through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding set to be filed on Friday, December 19, 2025.”
