Oregon Passes Bill to Combat Hospice Fraud

Oregon lawmakers have passed legislation aimed at curbing hospice fraud in the state. Oregon Senate Bill 1575 is designed to bar hospice operators with a history of fraud or substandard care in other states from opening locations in Oregon. It includes a moratorium on new hospice licenses while rules governing that process are updated. Under the bill, the Oregon Health Authority would review the track record of companies seeking hospice licenses before granting approval. The agency would examine factors such as results from the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems surveys and other performance data to determine whether applicants meet quality and compliance standards.
