A subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, the world’s largest insurance company, acquired the management company of one of Cincinnati’s largest providers of orthopedic surgery in November. The acquisition reflects growing consolidation in a health care industry that is ruled by just a handful of companies, UnitedHealth being one of them. OrthoAlliance, which manages Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, was acquired by Illinois based-SCA Health. Despite the sale of its management company, Beacon remains 100% owned by physician partners, according to Mat Milthaler, a spokesperson for OrthoAlliance. He declined to share the price tag on OrthoAlliance’s acquisition.
