Healthcare specialist managers are standing out in a tough fundraising environment. In PE, these specialists represented a record 5% of all funds closed in 2024 and continue to outraise on average. On the VC side, life science funds accounted for an elevated share of all VC commitments, but fund counts dropped to multiyear lows as capital continually concentrates in larger managers. Going forward, new opportunities in AI provider solutions and emerging therapeutic modalities are likely to keep allocations to healthcare high. However, macroeconomic challenges that have slowed fundraising across asset classes are likely to continue directing this capital to larger, established managers.
