Private Equity’s Medicaid Problem

Sponsors are bringing Medicaid-centric behavioral health plays to market — but whether they’ll find buyers at desirable valuations is another question. Housatonic Partners-backed Abound Health, which serves patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), is on the block and taking IOIs the week of July 7. Warwick-backed New Season Health, alongside Webster and BPEA-backed BayMark Health — both substance abuse treatment providers — are also coming to market. But, Medicaid is the primary payer for both long-term IDD services and medication-assisted treatment — and the program could face deep cuts.
