Senior living and care bankruptcies hit a two-year high in the first quarter, increasing to seven from three in the fourth quarter of 2024. That’s the highest quarterly increase in two years, according to a new report from healthcare restructuring advisory firm Gibbins Advisors. Senior living and care bankruptcies accounted for more than 40% of total healthcare filings, according to the report. The first quarter was the second consecutive one for which the sector led others among healthcare bankruptcy filings. Based on data from the first quarter, Gibbins said, healthcare bankruptcy filings in general are accelerating compared with 2024. Hospital and pharmaceutical filings fall behind senior living and care.
