US healthcare staffing is expected to contract by 5% this year following two years of contraction, though tariffs could weigh on healthcare staffing buyers and possibly affect their use of staffing. The segment’s largest component in terms of revenue, travel nurse, is also forecast to contract this year even as it sees some tailwinds. Right now, at least, this year’s contraction in overall healthcare staffing is forecast to be smaller than the 22% in 2024. Revenue last year fell amid a reduced reliance on contingent workers by clients, declining bill rates, rising burnout of workers and financial pressures, according to the recently released US Staffing Industry Forecast: March 2025 Update.
