Worcester-Based Fallon Health to Merge with Mass General Brigham Health Plan

Worcester-based insurer Fallon Health announces it plans to merge with Mass General Brigham Health Plan. A nonprofit insurer, Fallon Health currently covers approximately 200,000 members across Massachusetts. It was the first health plan in the state to cover Medicaid recipients in 1979 and the first in the nation to offer a Medicare Advantage Plan in 1980. In the joint statement, Fallon Health and Mass General Brigham, also a nonprofit, said the planned merge will broaden access and affordability, enhance care coordination and “strengthen our collective ability to serve communities across Massachusetts, with a particular focus on people covered by Medicare and Medicaid.”
