CMS has introduced a new model to support whole-person care for children up to age 21 enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The Accelerating State Pediatric Innovation Readiness and Effectiveness Model will run for 10 years and is voluntary for states, with up to five states eligible to participate, according to the CMS website. The agency will release a Notice of Funding Opportunity in 2026 to solicit participation. ASPIRE is designed to support children and youths who have or at risk of developing complex medical and behavioral needs. Approximately half of this population is covered by Medicaid or CHIP.
