The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has launched an investigation into “rampant” hospice fraud in California. Committee members wrote to California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) requesting documents and communications regarding the state’s oversight and internal controls for detecting or preventing fraud. “In California, your administration’s Departments of Public Health, Social Services and Health Care Services all have a role in overseeing federally funded hospice programs,” the committee wrote in the letter.
